Modifying any 4/4 riff by adding or removing one eighth note allows for some Odd Time manipulation. Your song structure will be influenced by your rhythmic presentation. We could play against 4/4 breaking our riff into 7/8-9/8 phrases creating a Polymetric feel. Or we could play a more straightforward Odd Time (eighth note) feel by organizing and accenting our riff in a four bar phrase of 7/8-7/8-7/8-9/8.
